Celebrate Memorial Day with Deep South Barrels

One of our favorite holidays is Memorial Day, a day of acknowledgement for those who lost their lives in the armed forces. Whether you will be grilling with the family, or visiting a military cemetery in remembrance, or some combination of the two, here are a couple ways you can party it up on May 25.

Start a New Recipe

Kickstart your holiday with a brand new recipe for your aging barrel. This Honey Whiskey recipe is as American as it gets, with a smooth, slightly sweet flavor. Submitted by Mike Tesnohlidek of Fruitland, Idaho.

Combine ¼ cup of Canadian Rye Essence, 3 liters of Taaka vodka, and 1 cup of honey, heated to thin. Add to a 3L barrel, and let it age for about 22-45 days, to taste. According to recipe creator Mike, this is an excellent shot, but also mixes well with Sprite or water. The perfect drink to mix up on Memorial Day weekend! Mix up a Cocktail

A festive, brightly-colored slushie (for adults only though) “The Rocket” looks and tastes like a rocket ice pop. Courtesy of AllRecipes.com, this cocktail takes only ten minutes to whip up.

Place ½ cup of crushed ice in a bowl, divide another ½ cup of crushed ice into two small bowls. Place ¼ oz. of blue curacao liqueur and ½ oz. of lemon-flavored vodka into one of the bowls containing ¼ cup of crushed ice. Mix well. Place raspberry liqueur and 1/2 fluid ounce of lemon vodka into the other 1/4 cup of ice and mix well. Mix the remaining 1 fluid ounce of lemon vodka into the bowl containing 1/2 cup of ice. Layer the blue curacao-flavored ice into the bottom of a glass. Place the lemon vodka-flavored ice over the blue layer; top with the raspberry-flavored ice. Enjoy this super-patriotic looking beverage!
