Fan Uses Aging Barrels to Perfect Ideal Scotch
We love a good Scotch at Deep South Barrels – and we love it even more when fans think of new and delicious ways to age it. We recently spoke with DSB customer Bill Kashouty, who used his aging barrel from us to create something really special. Read on for his secrets to excellent barrel-aged Scotch.
The DSB Difference
Bill was introduced to Deep South Barrels by his son, who gave him a barrel as a Christmas present, and now counts himself as a big fan. “The quality of the output after aging alcohol in the barrel is my favorite thing about Deep South Barrels,” Bill says. He prefers Scotch, and says that “my friends aren’t really Scotch drinkers, but are now thinking of switching after tasting how good my barrel-aged Scotch tastes.”
Scotch Blend
Bill shared his recipe with us, and now we are sharing it with you!
Bill’s Barrel-Aged Scotch
- 1 cup Dewars
- I cup Famous Grouse
- 1 TBSP Drambuie
- 1 oz. Dewars 12 year old Scotch
- 1 oz Glenmorange single malt 12 year old
- 1 oz Jamison Irish
Pour all ingredients into a 2L barrel. Turn the barrel every couple of days and bottle the result after a month. Pictured below is Bill's aging barrel setup.
What’s next on the aged spirits front for Bill? “I just started my single malt Scotch, using three bottles of the DSB Islay Malt essences mixed with the TAAKA vodka,” Bill says. “I am hoping it comes out as well after a couple months of aging!” Below is a delicious-looking bottle of Bill's home-brewed Scotch.
