Ten Things You Didn't Know About DSB at Rodeo Houston

One of our favorite times of the year is Rodeo Houston time. Many of our fans may not know just how important this annual event is to Deep South Barrels – check out this fun list for some insider information about the connections between Deep South Barrels and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

1. Booth Concept

The booth that many of our clients recognize us by was originally built for Rodeo Houston. The old-Western style was a direct nod to our Texas roots as well as rodeo style.

2. Home Turf

Houston is “home” for us, as our storefront is in Pearland, just a hop, skip and jump away from the sprawling grounds of Rodeo Houston. So Houston Rodeo is not only one of our biggest shows of the year, it’s also the closest to home.

3. Shot Glass Stands

The idea for our popular “double” shot glass stands was born from our very first year at the Rodeo.

4. Couple’s Barrels

Because of the double shot glass stands, our “his and hers” barrels were developed. They are now hugely popular for wedding, anniversary, and engagement gifts.

5. Hometown Connection

Two of the owners of Deep South Barrels belong to Rodeo Houston volunteer committees.

6. The “Wooden” Anniversary

2015 marks DSB’s fifth year as vendors at Rodeo Houston. This is ironic because the traditional fifth anniversary gift is wood, just like the oak in our mini barrels!

7. Moving On Up

Our booth hasn’t stayed in the same location every year at the rodeo. In fact, this year we will be at our third location in five years.

8. Media Spotlight

In 2012, Erik Barajas with Channel 13 News featured us in a segment called “Bootlegging at the Rodeo.”

9. MPE (Most Popular Essence)

If we had to choose a single product that is the most popular during Rodeo Houston, it would be our Canadian Rye Essence. We can’t keep it in stock!

10. Booth Love

In all the fairs, rodeos, and festivals that we travel to all around the country, we scoop up numerous “Best Booth” and “Best Looking Booth” awards, but we have never won that honor at Rodeo Houston. We are keeping our fingers crossed for this year! If you happen to see or talk to a judge when you are visiting the rodeo this year, mention us.
